Review: Natsuyuki Rendezvous

Hey everyone!
I wasn't sure about which would be my first topic to talk about after the introduction. I was about to talk about these past two years and my activities but somehow the title "Natsuyuki Rendezvous" came to my mind. I want to share my thoughts and experiences about this anime.
After so long of being absent from almost all of my hobbies I decided to give it a go at anime once again and started to watch 4 at the same time (including Natsuyuki Rendezvous). I'll be honest: when you proceed to read its description/plot it's kinda tricky and it actually makes you wonder if it's worthy to give it a try or if it's something that follows the same and classic line of romance; all the websites I've read give you just a tiny hint of what the anime is about. I wasn't so sure at first but its art seemed so appealing that I thought "this got to have something" and it turned out to be a good soul wash.
If you look at the review card I made, you can find out that this is about a man and a woman that met randomly; he fell instantly for her. He made sure to visit her shop every single day and one of those days he finds an annoucement outside the shop calling for any part-timers, his golden opportunity, and asked for the job. After being hired, for some reason he ended up visiting her house, just above the shop, and learnt that she was a widow. That and the fact that her late husband's spirit lived in the house, watching over her since he died. Of course she doesn't know, she can't even see him but for some reason he can. Along all the episodes you can see the interactions between he, Hazuki, brushing off awkwardness little by little with her, Rokka. And of course, his late husband, Shimao, interfering as much as he wants with this new relationship they're developing.
- Hazuki encounters himself caught up between the memory of someone who she, Rokka, hasn't forgotten, and his own feelings for her, feelings that's gotten stronger and plans to keep -
In every episode you see the evolution of things and scenarios. You see on one side Hazuki's youthful and unbreakable will to follow his heart and win over Rokka's; there's Rokka, who's entering a more mature age, who lingers in nostalgia and does things as some people say, in automatic pilot; and there's Shimao, a soul that decided to stay in the World after seeing his wife begging over his dead body for him not to go and leave her behind. When you reach the middle of the anime, there's an unexpected turn of things and Hazuki's body is used as a vessel for Shimao to "complete" and tell Rokka all the things he couldn't while he was alive. This is when there's a lot of flashbacks that helps you understand better about the past of these two and a lot of reflections about the future of the other two. You may wonder, if Shimao is using Hazuki's body then where's Hazuki's soul? Well, he's caught up in some kind of "limbo". Multiple places and at the same time nowhere...a world created by Shimao when he was still sick in the hospital.
In this limbo Hazuki starts to understand Shimao's existence, as a living body or as a living soul. Several questions and thoughts popped up on my mind in this stage:
"He's dead. She must aknowledge this fact and let him go. For him to rest in peace, for her to do so too"
"He must've loved her so much to care in life and to care even in death"
"But there is Hazuki too. He's there even though Shimao's there too"
"But since Shimao found a body he can stay with her and do all the things they couldn't due to his weak body..."
"But they're not in equal levels of comparison. He was her husband, he's dead and Hazuki's just a guy she's only started to know, he's alive. It's not fair"
"What are the morals of love? What can you do about it? Who decides what is right or what is wrong?"
Through several imageries and references to Thumbelina, Snow White and other classic stories you travel up and forth in the lives of three people. You connect with their love, their happiness, their pains and sorrows. It's interesting that the anime begins with Hazuki's point of view, then it changes to Rokka's and at last with Shimao. It's also very interesting that at first the anime is very moody and heavy, colors paint ordinary sceneries and then they slowly turn brighter, prettier and everything turns kind of experimental, philosofical and then it gets you.
Somehow everything was pushed in this anime due to its length, 11 episodes, and at the end is rushed. I also think that some things would've been better to express them or put them in other ways so it touches you from the beginning til the end. If you're looking to get everything from what you see or read, you'll not enjoy this at all. But you'll be joyful and filled if you analyze the meaning of everything behind every action.
I'll not say how this ends up. But it's sure something worth to find out watching this anime.

No estaba segura sobre cuál sería mi primer tema para hablar luego de hacer la introducción. Estaba a punto de hacer un post sobre lo que ha sido de mi en estos últimos dos años y mis actividades actuales pero de alguna manera el título "Natsuyuki Rendezvous" vino a mi mente. Después de haber estado por tanto tiempo ausente de casi todos mis hobbies decidí volver a intentar pegarme al anime y empecé a ver 4 al mismo tiempo (incluyendo Natsuyuki Rendezvous). Seré sincera, este anime puede tener una trampa al momento de leer la sinopsis porque realmente las que encontré en todos los sitios web a donde me fui no dicen mucho y te pones a pensar "¿Será otra clásica historia de romance?". Pero luego de ver todo el material gráfico del anime y su arte me convencí que esto tenía que tener ese "algo". Al final resultó ser una buena lavada de alma y corazón.
Si se fijan en la ficha que hice, podrán darse cuenta que esta es la historia de un hombre y una mujer que se conocen en un día cualquiera, él se enamoró a primera vista de ella. Todos los días cada día este hombre pasaba por la misma tienda, de la que ella era dueña, para verla. Un día en el que él iba pasando, vio que la tienda tenía un anuncio buscando a alguien que trabajara a medio tiempo, su oportunidad de oro, y terminó consiguiendo el trabajo. Un día de trabajo él por ciertas razones queda visitando la casa de ella, situada arriba de la tienda, y ahí fue donde se enteró que ella era viuda y no solo eso si no que el espíritu de su esposo fallecido aún rondaba en la casa cuidando de ella. Ella por supuesto no lo podía ver ni escuchar pero por alguna razón él sí. A medida que pasan los episodios uno ve cómo él, Hazuki, va acercándose poco a poco al corazón de ella, Rokka. Y de cómo su esposo fallecido, Shimao, hace lo posible para interferir con la relación de estos dos.
- Hazuki se encuentra atrapado entre la memoria de alguien al que Rokka no ha podido olvidar y sus propios sentimientos, sentimientos que están creciendo y que planea conservar -
En cada episodio uno puede observar la evolución de diferentes situaciones y escenarios. Por un lado vemos a Hazuki con su joven e inquebrantable carácter; por otro vemos a Rokka, quien ya está entrando a una edad más madura, viviendo en la nostalgia y como quienes dicen por ahí "haciendo las cosas en piloto autómatico"; y por último a Shimao, un alma que decidió quedarse en este mundo luego de observar cómo su esposa lloraba sobre su cuerpo sin vida pidiéndole que no se fuera y no la dejara atrás. Cuando se llega a la mitad del anime nos encontramos con un giro 360° y el cuerpo de Hazuki es usado como un 'medio' por Shimao para hacer y decirle a Rokka todas esas cosas que no pudo mientras estaba vivo. Aquí es donde vemos muchos flashbacks que nos ayudan a entender mejor cuál fue la verdadera historia de Rokka y Shimao y que nos ayudan a reflexionar sobre qué será de Rokka y Hazuki. Se preguntarán, "Si el alma de Shimao está usando el cuerpo de Hazuki entonces dónde está el alma de Hazuki?". Bueno, está atrapada en una especie de "limbo"...en muchos lugares y al mismo tiempo en la nada: un mundo que creó Shimao a través de sus pinturas y dibujos en los tiempos en el que él estaba enfermo en el hospital.
En este limbo Hazuki empieza a conocer más sobre la historia que le tocó vivir a él y empieza a reconocer la existencia de Shimao. Como un cuerpo viviente o como un alma viviente. Ya para esta parte solo me rondaban muchísimas preguntas y me decía otras:
"El está muerto. Ella debe dejarlo ir, para que el pueda descansar y para que ella también haga lo mismo"
"Él debió haberla amado tanto en vida como para también seguirla amando en la muerte"
"Pero también está Hazuki y él ha seguido intentando a pesar que Shimao sigue ahí"
"Pero como ahora Shimao consiguió un cuerpo ahora puede hacer las cosas que nunca pudo hacer debido a su condición inestable..."
"Pero no se pueden comparar en nada. Él era su esposo y está muerto, Hazuki es un joven que ella acaba de conocer y está vivo. No es justo"
"¿Cuál es la verdadera moral del amor? ¿Qué tanto uno puede hacer? ¿Quién decide qué es bueno y qué es malo?
A través de múltiples recursos visuales y referencias a cuentos clásicos como Pulgarcita, Blanca Nieves y otros, viajamos en la vida de tres personas. Nos conectamos con su vida, su amor, su felicidad, su dolor, su tristeza. Es interesante cómo el anime empieza a ser contado desde el punto de vista de Hazuki, luego cambia al de Rokka y luego al de Shimao logrando que uno comprenda y empatice profundamente con todos los personajes. Es interesante ver también que el anime empieza pesado, y hasta difícil de llevar, con colores dentro de escenarios ordinarios pero poco a poco van cambiando y haciéndose más claros y más hermosos. Todo se vuelve experimental casi filosófico y luego te atrapa.
No diré cómo termina pero es algo que recomiendo grandemente a que lo averigüen viendo este anime.

De alguna manera todo en este anime se siente que está empujado a presión y el final está super apresurado. También creo que si hubiesen puesto o expresado ciertas cosas de otra manera para que el anime te llegara de principio a fin también hubiera sido mejor. Si eres del tipo de personas que buscan sacar todo solo de lo que ven y leen no disfrutarás para nada este anime. Pero si analizas las razones que hay detrás de cada acción te sentirás realmente lleno.
No diré cómo termina pero es algo que recomiendo grandemente a que lo averigüen viendo este anime.

[ - A veces cuando perdemos a alguien querido, el daño que le hacemos por no dejarlos ir y el sufrimiento que nos causamos por ello. No existen caminos rectos en el amor y está bien dudar aunque sea una vez, eso es parte de la naturaleza humana - ]
